Professional qualified toxicologist
Ockie Fourie obtained the degrees M.Sc. (Chemistry, distinction) and Ph.D. (Toxicology) from the University of Cape Town in 1975 and 1987 respectively. During his career he was employed by the Atomic Energy Board (Chemist 1963 – 1973), Sea Fisheries Institute (Pollution Research 1974 – 1978) and the Department of National Health and Population Development (Toxicologist 1979 – 1987). Invaluable experience in all aspects of toxicology was gained which subsequently lead to the foundation of Ockie Fourie Toxicologists early in 1988.

Professional career

Forty two years experience in basic and applied research in environmental studies and health and safety matters.

Specialist knowledge and experience in all matters pertaining to regulatory, environmental, clinical and ecological toxicology.

Specialist knowledge in assisting health officials in the identification, toxicology, symptomatology and treatment procedures of poisoning cases.

Specialist knowledge and experience in toxicological risk assessment for all chemicals and wastes, with reference to man and the environment.

Review and evaluation of the toxicology, ecotoxicology, environmental fate and risk assessment of 91 novel and other active substances of plant protection products, for registration in South Africa and other countries the past 20 years.

Member of an Expert Committee of the Medicines Control Council of the Department of Health, RSA.
